Crystal Kenethey's safe, plain yogurt life turns upside down when she runs into her old love, Mike Perzelle. She's struggled for ten long years to forget him and his betrayal, only to come face to face with him, and all the old questions and doubts, again. Mike destroyed Crystal's trust in him and she walked away without a backward glance. But she always wondered if she'd done the right thing. She's been playing the "What If" game for years, since no man has sparked the heat and passion Mikey could.

Seeing Mike again stirs those feelings she has long buried. She learns the truth about the incident that led to their demise and realizes she has never stopped loving him. She never gave him a chance to explain himself when the incident occurred, and now she's too late. He's carved out his own life in a new city and there isn't room for her in it, not the way she wants. Mike is a man of honor and has promised another woman he will not abandon her, despite his own renewed feelings for her and the love he admits never died. Can there be a happy ending to a pivotal reunion ten years too late?

Customer Reviews

If your heart warms when you reflect on a childhood soulmate; a first love; a rekindled relationship; a second chance; or the simply the power of faith, love, kindness, and strength to cement friendships, change lives, and overcome obstacles, “Crystal Clear Love” will touch your soul.

Koontz’s fourth book is one that shines from the start, when best childhood friends Mike Perzelle, Crystal (Chrissy) Kenethey, and Sherrie Scotts are reunited at the funeral of Sherrie’s mom — beloved by everyone in their Margaretta Street neighborhood as “Mammaw.” For Mike and Chrissy, the Christmas-time reunion is particularly complicated and emotionally charged, dredging up memories of a first love and its abrupt and heartbreaking end.

Due to an unexpected holiday blizzard, Mike and Chrissy find themselves under the same roof as guests of Sherrie and her husband Johnner — a serendipitous stranding that changes their lives.
Throughout the book, Koontz skillfully weaves present and past — occasionally flashing back to “how it all started” among Mike, Chrissy, and Sherrie on Margaretta Street. Seeing glimpses of the “child” in each member of this trio adds depth to the story line and rewards the reader with a rich connection. You can’t help but love these people.

“Crystal Clear Love” evokes tears and smiles. And the twists and turns in Chrissy and Mike’s path will test the prediction first whispered to a teenaged Chrissy by a turbaned fortuneteller shortly after she met Mike: “You two are connected at the heart, my dear.”

I loved this book from the first page all the way to the end. Ms. Koontz’s writing is elegant and professional, making the reading a pleasure. The characters are believable and accessible. Their stories are interesting and full of heart. With unexpected twists, the story is intense as Mike and Crystal discover truths and are offered a second chance at love.

I received a copy of the ARC in exchange for a fair an honest review.

One thing I found refreshing in this book was the believability of the characters. Too often romance novels are made up of heroes and heroines who are too good to be true, but that isn't the case when it comes to Crystal and Mike. They are down to earth and like most people, they make mistakes. It is those same mistakes and lack of communication which threaten to keep them apart.

Without giving anything away, I want to say that Crystal Clear Love had some nice twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I can't wait to read more by this talented author.
